It’s hard to imagine a more wonderful day than this – clear, warm and sunny! Couldn’t be better for Middlebury College’s Pre-Commencement events, the Fisher-Baker Wedding or the LCI benefit concert with cellist Benjamin Elton Capps.
The Main Dining Room is open for dinner this weekend (and nightly beginning June 15th), and we were able to sample some of the offerings last night. We wish you could have been there with us! All possible ingredients are hyper-locally sourced from Addison County.
Appetizers included beef tartare on gaufrette frites, local greens with pickled celeriac, buratta and EVOO, a deconstructed seafood “martini” with shrimp, scallop, mussel, clam and more we can’t recall just now, and also a tagliatelle with wild mushrooms and parmesan cream.
Moving on to entrees, our table had Brandt beef, a cider-brined pork chop, Addison County braised rabbit (tender as silk), and, a vintage item from the 1971 menu collection, Dover sole with fried capers. We did good justice to these culinary delights and moved on to dessert.
We only had room for two desserts: a grilled pound cake with coconut ice cream and fresh fruit salsa, and a dark chocolate tart with black pepper ice cream – both plates were practically licked clean! We’re going to have start upping our exercise . . .
