It may be a false spring but all of us here at Basin Harbor are loving these balmy, sunny days – it’s truly weather that you’d enjoy tremendously in May when we’ve just opened! Still, I’m not taking my snow tires off just yet – I recall late season snowfalls in excess of 12 inches. That said, I truly hope that won’t be the case this year.
Executive Chef Rod Rehwinkel is hard at work on this year’s menus. Every one from the Red Mill to outdoor dinners, breakfast, lunch and Main Dining Room dinner is getting close scrutiny. Chef Rod is talking with Vermont growers, farmers and producers far and wide – and in Vermont it’s never very far – to bring you the best and freshest local ingredients. There is no doubt that you’ll love this year’s food offerings. We can’t wait to get started!
Many have asked whether the golf course will open early this year due to this extraordinary weather. PGA Golf Pro, Paul Meunier, will be coming on board on April 2nd, and he and Superintendent Charlie Messinger will assess the situation before making the call. Much depends on what Mother Nature decides to throw at us in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
You may not know it but Bob, my brother, has been waterskiing on Lake Champlain in every month (not all the same year) but January and February. We were just talking about it the other day, and saying how this would have been the year to fill in the missing months. Oh, well, there’s always 2013 . . .
The maple trees are in bloom now, spring bulbs are coming up, day lillies are flinging themselves out of the ground. We’re in for an early spring for sure. All we need is you being here to make it feel like summer.
