Has spring come to Basin Harbor?

With record-breaking temperatures, the ice is giving it’s last gasp.  Spring is on its way, and the remaining piles of snow are going, going, gone away!  It’s a good thing because the summer crew has returned once more and is hard at work to prepare Basin Harbor for opening day, May 9th.

Yesterday was Merle’s birthday and she celebrated by an exhilarating dip in Lake Champlain.  The water temperature is a balmy 35 degrees, so it was a fast dip.  Not to be outdone, Brian had to prove his mettle as well.  Rumor has it that he came out a lot faster than he went in.

What’s better than a dog in mud season?  TWO dogs.  We’re running out of wipe-off towels for Piccolo and Ava.  They’re getting their last sprints in before the fast-approaching time when it’s leads for them until we close.  And Ava almost made it through the entire year without cutting a foot.  Just when you thought you were out of the woods . . .

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and you’ll be able to celebrate it in the Main Dining Room at Basin Harbor with us.  Jennie Johnson will serenade us as we enjoy the toothsome treats that Chef David Merrill is planning.  And, perhaps best of all, there will be loads of kids’ activities to keep the youngsters amused so you can linger over another cup of coffee.

This marks the 125th year for Basin Harbor.  We’ll be celebrating all season long, with 125 parties – maybe more – to mark the occasion.  Memorial Day will be a blast – literally – as fireworks are part of the planned activities.  Hope you’ll be able to join us!

Get out there and have some fun today – Pennie
