What a fantastic day to welcome our guests! We are delighted to have with us Beth Lybik from Dublin, OH, along with Andrew and Molly. Phil & Trish Desantis and Claire, Katie, and Peter are here from New Canaan, CT. Glad to have you all back!
Happy 50th Anniversary to the Metcalfs, who will be celebrating with family members from far and wide today at the Harbor. We wish you many more happy years to come! We also wish a belated Happy Birthday to Collin Whitmore, who turned 9 years old yesterday. Hope it was a good one!

Wildlife News
What could be more expected than running into a snake on Snake Mountain? During a hot and humid double-duty trek up both local landmarks Snake Mtn. and Mt. Philo on Monday, Grandpa Metcalf along with John Hunt, Sr., John Hunt Jr., and Henry Hunt, spotted a snake with chain-like markings. They likely saw an Eastern Milksnake, we are excited to report. Thanks for the sighting!

Resort News
Did you know that Basin Harbor’s original gardens were planted in 1896? Or that the Surprise Garden located on the East side of the main lodge and named after beloved BHC gardener Herbert Surprise contains two rose bushes that are over 50 years old? If you’re curious about the history and beauty of our colorful grounds, jump aboard the Garden Tour with Claire L’Esperance, our lovely Basin Harbor florist, for an afternoon stroll.

Who doesn’t love Italian food? If you’d like to learn the secrets straight from the source, don’t miss tomorrow’s Cooking Class with Chef Tony, who is originally from Capri, Italy. Our talented guest chef spent years working in Switzerland and in Montreal before setting up shop in Vermont with an 1820 farmhouse he turned into the award-winning Villa Tragara Ristorante in Waterbury Center, now known as Michael’s On The Hill. Chef Tony will tantalize your tastebuds with his traditional recipes as you learn how to cook Italian-style in our open-air North Dock kitchen. Sign up in advance with the concierge!

Feel like getting out of the sun this afternoon? How about rounding up a friend or even the whole family for a board game in the Champlain Lounge? Basin Harbor Club offers a whole selection of games to borrow from the Front Desk, and DVDs to check out for this evening! While you’re in the lounge, grab a cool beverage from the bar, which is open from 3pm to 10pm.

A slideshow of the candid images captured this week will be running this afternoon in the Ranger Room. Don’t forget to pick up a card at the concierge desk with information and the password on how to view and purchase your images online. Or stop by the Club Room tomorrow from 12–2pm to order your images in advance.
