July 4 Week 26
Local Weather (Subject to Change!)
The good news: our forecast involves partly sunny skies and a high of 88 degrees today. Alas, the radar also shows potential for showers and thunderstorms, with a 50% chance of precipitation.
How lovely to see our friends back at the Harbor on this holiday! We welcome back longtime Basin Harborites Brent & Jaycee Stred from North Adams, MA, along with their little ones. From Shrewsbury, VT we are joined by Howard & Deborah Weaver, while Ridgewood, NJ brings Tim & Susan Madden to the Harbor along with Jenny and David. The Matt Family welcomes Francis & Pamela Matt to their happy reunion, and we know they will all have a wonderful time together! Last but not least, Basin Harbor wishes a very Happy Birthday to Barbara Ibsen from West Caldwell, NJ. Enjoy your special day, Barbara!
Happy Independence Day! What a blast it was yesterday to see the Bike Parade with all of you patriotic participants, and to witness the amazement that is the First Annual BHC Cardboard Boat Regatta. Congratulations to all of our seafaring participants, and the creative teams that put these boats together in record time! Four especially fierce warriors, Ben, Jack, Jim, and Colin orchestrated the winning watercraft, Poseidon’s Following. To quote one of our champions, the boat was “an engineering marvel but an artistic nightmare.” Way to make it work, fellas! Maybe next year you’ll have the budget to hire on a creative director.
Do you want to feel stronger? Enhancing your core strength is a great way to improve your entire well being, and will make your vacation feel that much better! BHC offers a Core Training class this morning before lunch at the Treehouse Wellness Center to get you on your way. Sign up with the concierge. And don’t miss the Basin Harbor Triathlon this afternoon! Challenge yourself on this fun event that will have you swimming, biking, and running around BHC property. Grab a friend or family member for a team, or do all three legs on your own! Meet down at the waterfront at 1:45pm with a bike and helmet, and wear something patriotic on this special occasion!
If you missed the Apiary Tour on Sunday with Peter Morris, you are in luck! Peter will be showing off his bees again this afternoon at 1:30pm, weather permitting. Sign up with the concierge, as space is limited to 5 participants. Remember not to wear any fragrances and especially to stay away from bananas before you join the tour. Peter will tell you why!
Abbey has a brand-new art class on the roster this year down at the Nature Center! Egg tempera is an age-old method of painting, with examples that date back to the 1st centery A.D. Tempera was the most common medium for painting in the art world until the advent of oil painting in the 1500s. Step into the past for our class Painting with Nature, and you will learn how to mix egg yolks with natural pigments found in the great outdoors or in your kitchen to create a little canvas masterpiece of your own. Sign up with the concierge, as space is limited.
A slideshow of the candid images captured this week will be running this afternoon in the Ranger Room. Don’t forget to pick up a card at the concierge desk with information and the password on how to view and purchase your images online. Or stop by the Club Room tomorrow from 12-2 pm to order your images in advance.
We’re in New England, so how about some lobster? Make your reservations for our Shore Dinner tonight on the North Dock, where you’ll be rewarded with a bounty of deliciousness from the land and sea. Beforehand, hop aboard the EScape for a BHC cocktail cruise, and let’s keep our fingers crossed for good weather! Sign up in advance with the concierge.
Quote of the Day:
“But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine.”
