August 8 Week 31
Local Weather (Subject to Change!)
The radar shows a 60% possibility for thunderstorms today, mainly before 4pm. Temperatures are expected to reach 81 degrees.
Basin Harbor is delighted to welcome our returning guests today! It’s nice to see David & Mika Frechette of Greenwich, CT visiting Vermont, and we hope you have a wonderful stay! Also joining us from Queensbury, NY are the fabulous Mike & Carol Barnes. We are so glad to have you with us!
Last chance to jump aboard a Longboat built at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, and do a bit of historic rowing! Join Matt this morning for one of two rowing sessions, where you’ll get to experience what it was like in Cornwall, England to head into the open water with your rowing team and coxswain. This unique opportunity is open to all levels of rowers. Check in with the concierge and get out on the water!
If you would like to be out on the water in a more casual setting, sign up to hop aboard a special morning Narrated EScape Cruise at 10:30am. Lake Champlain is calling you!
The staghorn sumac is in bloom, and that means it’s time to make sumac kool-aid! To pick up a few fun recipes for local wild edibles and to learn more about Basin Harbor’s vast array of flora and fauna, head to the Nature Center and get the scoop! While you’re there, check out our displays about bugs, shipwrecks, Lake Champlain geology, and the legend of Champ! Pick up your trail maps, cycling maps, and hiking guides, as well.
For the active Basin Harborites in our crowd, don’t miss the Basin Harbor Triathlon this afternoon! Challenge yourself on this fun event that will have you swimming, biking, and running around BHC property. Grab a friend or family member for a team, or do all three legs on your own. Meet down at the waterfront at 1:45pm with a bike and helmet and a competitive spirit!
Should the weather turn a bit drizzly this afternoon, consider a relaxing indoor spa treatment! Choose from a whole menu of unbelievable massage options from our Blue Chair Day Spa massage therapists Kate and Patti. See the concierge to set up your treatments, with openings still available for today!
If you are willing to brave the weather forecast, sign up for our exciting hiking outing to one of naturalist Matthew Witten’s favorite Vermont hikes, Deer Leap! Participants will carpool to the trailhead in Bristol, about a 25 minute drive, then enjoy a good old-fashioned upward stroll to a lovely view of the Green Mountains. The hike is about 3.5 miles round trip with moderate elevation gain. Hiking shoes are recommended, in addition to water, sunscreen, bug repellant, and of course your camera! Sign up with the concierge.
A slideshow of the candid images captured this week will be running this afternoon in the Ranger Room. Don’t forget to pick up a card at the concierge desk with information and the password on how to view and purchase your images online. Or stop by the Club Room tomorrow from 12-2 pm to order your images in advance.
Basin Harbor has activities for the whole family! Remember that resort-wide activities for the day are printed on the back of the daily Breeze, while the kids’ program schedule of events is listed separately on the back of the Weekly Schedule, available at the Front Desk and posted on the bulletin board in the lobby. Don’t miss out!
The Town Hall will be brimming over with excitement for Basin Harbor’s favorite game, BINGO! Who will take home the jackpot tonight?
