Onion River Jazz Band 30th Anniversary Concert
Posted on June 18, 2014
The Onion River Jazz Band is a seven piece traditional Dixieland jazz band based in Burlington, Vermont (that hot bed of jazz!). For over 30 years, the Onion River Jazz Band has been presenting traditional New Orleans Dixieland Jazz which represents the roots and origin of jazz in America. The band has worked to preserve the original sound of jazz with the performance of tunes from such legends and innovators as King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Bix Biederbecke, Lu Watters and Clarence Williams.
The band was formed in 1984 when a group of musicians played for a jazz worship service at the First Congregational Church in Burlington as a part of the Discover Jazz Festival. Currently, the band plays concerts, weddings, worship services, memorial services, grand openings and jazz cruises continuously throughout the New England Area.
Tomorrow, Thursday, June 19, 2014, the Basin Harbor Club will play host to the Onion River Jazz Band on their waterfront, by the North Dock, as the Band celebrates their 30th anniversary. A cash bar will be available, and if you’re in the mood for a fine Shore Dinner while you listen to the sweet sounds of Dixieland Jazz, you can call the Basin Harbor Club at (800) 622-4000 for details and reservations for this jazz concert. The concert is FREE and open to the public if the weather cooperates. In the event of inclement weather, the celebration will be moved inside to the Resort’s Ranger Room and dinner reservations will be required due to lack of space.
