Guest News
Basin Harbor is delighted to welcome Mr. & Mrs. David Stetson from South Burlington, VT, bringing along Hunter and Hadley for a last dose of Summer fun. A big “hello” goes out to Maureen Weiss, who joins us from New York, NY this week. The Karman Family is also with us, and we welcome Alfred & Joan Karman of Jamaica, NY, as well as Andrea Tully and family and Doug Karman and family from Northport, NY. We hope you have a wonderful time together at Basin Harbor Club!

Fishing News
Big news from the dock! Our talented fisherman Tate Wirth caught a doozy of a fish yesterday off the EScape dock! The 18” pike came with enough teeth to put a shark to shame. Way to go, Tate!

Resort News
Did you know that the Dutchman’s Pipe vine on the porch of the Main Lodge is over 100 years old? Or that there are French soldiers buried in a little-known gravesite right on Basin Harbor property? Attend the History of Basin Harbor with Bob Beach, Jr. this morning and learn all about the origins of your favorite resort.

It’s still hot out there! August weather is back in action, and that means you might need a refreshment this afternoon! In between catching a lake breeze, grab a frozen concoction or a chilled beer at the Burgee Bar or a creemee at the Harbor Store! If you find yourself on the other side of the property, duck into the Fairway Café next to the golf shop for a cold one and a snack. When you’ve filled your sun quota for the day, escape to the air-conditioned Champlain Lounge and let Constantin whip you up a tasty drink. Your beverage needs are well covered here at Basin Harbor!

Want to see what Basin Harbor looks like from far away? Naturalist Matthew Witten has a special opportunity on the roster to satisfy your outdoor adventures, which will afford you a lovely view over the Champlain Valley. Tomorrow afternoon, join Matt on a hiking outing to Buck Mountain, a nearby knoll in Vergennes. This moderate 2.5 mile round trip hike will traverse up a gentle hill, with a few steep sections, and Matt will help interpret the flora and fauna you’ll encounter along the way. We recommend comfortable hiking or walking shoes with traction, a bottle of water, and perhaps some bug spray. We will carpool to the trailhead, which is about a 15-20 minute drive from Basin Harbor Club. Sign up in advance with the concierge!

Have you enjoyed a meal in the Main Dining Room yet? If so, you know the quality of food that comes from Basin Harbor’s famous kitchen. This afternoon you’ll have the opportunity to see where the magic happens and meet the crew behind it all! Hop on board the Kitchen Tour and learn a few secrets about your BHC dining experience. Then unlock the secrets of authentic Italian cooking by attending one of two (or both!) Cooking Classes with Chef Tony, held this very afternoon. Tony will show you how to make the classic eggplant relish called Caponata, and everyone’s favorite Italian dessert, Cannoli! Sign up with the concierge in advance.

Ann-Marie will be capturing candid images today at all camps. A slideshow of this week’s candids will be running this evening in the Champlain Lounge. Our last Family Portrait Special is available tomorrow morning at the Wilderneath Garden.  Please sign up with the concierge by this evening. Private Portrait Sessions are still available throughout the week.
