some of the chairs for the auction!
“Reflections on Basin Harbor” is an innovative program which links the beauty of Basin Harbor’s environs with the talents of Vermont artists, and gives the resulting works exposure to a wide audience that delights in the results.
The program was begun when Basin Harbor celebrated its Centennial in 1985. The Beach family wanted to commemorate the event but could not agree on an artist, let alone the subject matter which should be selected. Instead, we invited a number of Vermont artists to come and stay at the resort that spring as our guests, to create works which were exhibited at the end of summer. The family selected a painting from the show, and guests enthusiastically snapped up many others. It was such a popular event that the juried 10-day show has become a tradition at the end of summer, beginning each year 10 days prior to Labor Day.
In recognition of a quarter century of its partnership with the arts community, Basin Harbor Club will invite 25 artists whose work has appeared in the show over the years to participate in the week-long exhibit (August 20 - 28, 2010). NEW!!The resort will also invite all previous participants of the show to paint / embellish / translate an 8" iconic Basin Harbor Adirondack Chair. The chairs will be displayed at the show where a silent auction for them will be held to benefit the Vermont Arts Council. (see examples of the chairs above)
